South Uist, off the West Coast of Scotland is part of the Hebridean Archipelago and home to Salar Smokehouse. Established in 1987 our smokehouse is nestled among the beautiful scenic bays of Lochcarnan on South Uist’s eastern shore.

Our award winning Flaky Smoked Salmon has won numerous awards since it was first produced on the premises and we aim to continue to build on our success.

Produced in small batches, the distinctive flavour and texture our Flaky salmon is different to any other hot smoked products due to the unique hand built kilns and treasured recipe.  Our smoked cooked salmon retains all the natural omega 3 oils and nutrients and produces the succulent but firm Flaky texture which only Flaky Smoked Salmon can provide.

We source only the highest quality Atlantic salmon (Salmo Salar) from Scottish salmon producers which is reared in the clear waters off the coast of Scotland.

Our processes are simple and old fashioned in a way, handmade throughout the process, ensuring each portion is handled with pride and quality.  It takes years of experience and patience to master this process, one that cannot be rushed.

Absolutely delighted to be announced as finalists in the Great British food awards 2017.

The Awards:�The Great British Food Awards were launched in 2014 to celebrate the country's finest local food and drink.
This year they have enlisted the creme de la creme of the food world to judge the various categories, including Michel Roux Jr, Rachel Allen, Simon Rogan, Nathan Outlaw, Grace Dent and Valentine Warner.

So winning companies will be able to shout from the fooftops that their product has been named the 'best in Britain' by some of the top names in food.

Winners (and runners up) will also be included in a huge spread in the October issue of Great British Food, as well as plenty of coverage online at greatbritishfoodmagazine.com and across our social media platforms.

Winners, runners up and shortlisted companies will also receive bespoke logos to promote their win.

Seasonal Production staff required for the Salar Smokehouse in Lochcarnan.
Must have access to their own vehicle or arrange travel to and from the Smokehouse.
The role involves heavy lifting a working in a cold and wet environment at all times.
Able to work in an efficient manner in a fast paced environment to meet all targets set by management.
High standard of personal hygiene.
Previous experience in fish filleting or in a similar role
Good rates of pay, variable hours as required
